Inspiration for Event Organizers
It's about having fun for all, participants, parents, spectators and organizers.
DERBY*GOKIT ® was used to standardize the components in all events shown on this page. Please remember to get the brochure for organizers, available upon request with your first purchase.
We welcome you to submit photos and videos of your soapbox event featuring DERBY GOKIT ®..
You are not alone ...
Service clubs (such as Kiwanis, Rotary and Kinsmen Clubs), churches, schools, first responders, communities and businesses, both small and large, are normally excited to have the opportunity to be part of a family friendly event such as a soapbox race or build event.
Need a safety officer or radar gun? Consider having the local first responders present at the event.
Need to close a road for an event? It is made easy if you have the communities backing.
Need someone to do play by play commentary on the race? The local auctioneer may have a mobile auction and some free time.
Farmers and trucking companies ...
Local farmers may have staw or hay bales that can be used for safety barriers along each side of the track and then pick up the bales when the race is over.
Trucking companies may be able to drop off and pickup starting ramps and other equpment.
Local trucking company may offer to provide the flat bed trailers on which the ramps are fastened and moved them to the hill on race day. Ramps as elaborate as the ones shown below should not be necessary, but they allowed older kids to start at the top and younger kids a starting point lower down to control speed.
Corporate and Community Sponsors ...
Look for sponsors to provide start and finish banners, refreshments, prizes and promotion of the events.
Everyone benefits because the organizers appreciate the donations and the sponsor appreciates the opportunity to let the community know it is a good corporate citizen. Communities will sponsor an event as it draws positive attention to the community and has a positive impact on the communities youth. Some organizers and/or participants have approached sponsors to purchase kits and entry fees on behalf of the participants. Service organizations can use the "entry fees" to support their favorite projects. Consider a local TV or radio station as a sponsor to provide promotion of the event.
